Each of you should sooner or later receive a letter from the "ARD ZDF Deutschlandradio Beitragsservice". In this letter, you will be asked to pay the monthly fee of 18.36€. We pay the broadcasting fee as ONE shared apartment per floor. Although we are a dormitory, we fall under a special rule:
"If the rooms in a student dormitory are designed in such a way that they resemble a private apartment or shared apartment, only one fee per apartment needs to be paid. This applies if the rooms are separated by their own apartment door from a generally accessible hallway or staircase, to which only the residents of the shared apartment have a key."
On the narrow east side of the dormitory, there is a small enclosed area where the garbage bins are located. You need your apartment key to get in.
The two washing machines and the dryer are located in the basement near the A corridor. There are also some clotheslines there. To use them, washing or dryer tokens are required.
If something from the basic equipment in the dormitory is broken, the janitors are usually responsible for it. Of course, this excludes items that were installed by us residents. For example, if an oven, a lamp, or the shower is broken, someone needs to drop a damage report in the janitor's mailbox. Even if things like the window, the door, the ceiling lamp, the smoke detector, or the heating are broken in your own room, the janitors are responsible for it.
We have a common WhatsApp group for our floor. To join it, you need to ask someone who is already part of the group to add you. Just ask around.
There are also separate groups for the regulars' table and movie night.
The floor has a small kettle grill that can be used freely when needed. It is important not to grill near dry vegetation and always to have the small fire extinguisher from the common room nearby. The grill grate should be cleaned after each use, and the ashes must be emptied (ensure they are completely cooled). If the grill is still hot, it may be left in front of the bike storage for a while, but it must be put back inside by the next day at the latest.
Each person is responsible for their own charcoal, but there is often a bag of charcoal next to the grill that can be used for one 'beer tally' per person in the common room.
Some time ago, communal handcarts were purchased that residents are free to use. However, they must be returned in perfect condition and clean. Please contact your event tutor beforehand if you want to use one.
A communal table with benches is stored in the stairwell basement and may be freely used (e.g., for studying, grilling, beer pong, etc.). It is essential to wipe it down after each use, regardless of the activity. If the tablecloth or cushions are used, they should be washed if necessary. If you would like to borrow the table for a day or take it to the lake/park, please arrange this in advance with an event tutor.
